Weldready MIG guns and consumables: Why we built our own lineup
When it comes to MIG welding, most people aren’t looking for equipment that is flashy or expensive; they just want a reliable wire burner that feels good in their hands. At the store, we’ve had the same request over and over again for an industrial quality MIG gun that isn’t as expensive as a big brand-named product, but also isn’t going to crap out on them like Amazonian Chineseum guns will.
Weldready’s house brand MIG gun and consumables have been designed to maximize quality while still hitting an economical price point. In fact, with many of our products like our silver coated chrome zirconium copper (CuCrZr) contact tips, we actually improved quality and lowered costs. Let’s get right to it:
Our search
We searched every square inch of welding and manufacturing tradeshows across the globe to find the perfect product. We have a veritable graveyard of garbage samples that we would never put our logo on. We kissed the frogs so that you can kiss the princess. A MIG gun should feel natural in your hand with a satisfying switch that holds up to daily work and stays consistent from the first weld to the last. Before setting off on our mission, our team listened to feedback from customers and performed product teardowns to better understand the problems welders run into most often.
Our non-negotiables:
-
100% OEM compatibility
Most shops are already entrenched in a Miller or Lincoln ecosystem, while some have a rainbow of equipment purchased over the years. Our guns need to be plug-and-play compatible with their existing machines and consumables. This ensures replacement is simple and seamless, so customer's can go straight to enjoying the cost savings and quality improvements without having to make drastic changes. -
Value-add for purchasers and welders alike
Weldready’s private label products have to fill the gap between expensive OEM products and basic aftermarket products. Our premium economy offerings have to be the highest quality options that the office workers will sign off on and pay for. -
Personalized service
As a small business, we aren’t bogged down by bureaucracy and slow corporate decision making. Customers can simply reach out to us, tell us what they are looking for, and we will work with them to find the right gun/consumables at the right price. When we get feedback and suggestions from our customers, we move fast to implement them. Our end goal is to make products that real people want and can afford to use. If we find ways to make improvements we will do so in real time.
Our promise
The conversations we had with welders about their needs shaped everything. Some products we tested looked impressive at first glance, but failed quickly when put into use. Others had inconsistent or failing elements like poor cable flexibility, unsatisfying switches or questionable durability. If you haven't pulled a trigger that gave you an "ick," gone vertical up with a gun that feels like it's fighting you with every weave, or felt the constant vibration of erratic wire feeding, consider yourself lucky. The selection process took time, but it yielded a lineup of Weldready MIG products that we confidently stand behind.
The response from local welders in London and the welding community in Canada has been incredibly encouraging. Shops across different industries have been putting these products to work and happily ordering more. The feedback is reinforcing what we knew from the beginning: if you focus on performance, reliability and value, the customer won't care about the logo.
What’s next
Launching our own MIG gun and consumables is the foundation, not the finish line. We’re testing new products, gathering feedback and looking for opportunities to bring more value-driven equipment to the Canadian welding industry.
If you have already given our MIG products a shot, we’d appreciate hearing how it’s holding up by leaving a review. Product reviews help others make informed purchases and makes a huge impact for our small business.
If you tried our house brand products and aren’t happy, let us know so that we can work together to find the right fit for your team, and relay the quality improvements directly to the factory.
